Be Happy!
O taste and see that the Lord our God is good! Blessed happy, fortunate, to be envied is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him. Psalm 34:8 Amplied Bible
There is nothing as tragic as being alive and not enjoying life! The above noted scripture tells us that if we taste of the goodness of God , trust in Him and take our refuge, refuge meaning letting God watch over us and protect us, then Happiness will overtake us and we will be envied (people will be jealous of us). When is the last time anyone was jealous of your happiness?
One of the definitions of Happy is: joyous, joyful, blithe, cheerful, merry, contented, blissful, satisfied, favorable, propitious; successful, prosperous.
Do you find yourself in any of these definitions? If not then we need to do some soul searching and find out why we are not feeling or acting happy. 2 Cor. 5:7 says that we walk by faith (trusting in God) not by sight (what we see happening around us).
One of the characteristics of a Happy person is that he or she is enthusiastic about or involved with something to a disproportionate (lopsided) degree. That means you can go ahead and enjoy your life while God works on the problems. You can have so much fun in life that your life seems lopsided to those who are always worrying about their future and what’s going on around them at present.
A Happy person is one who has finally realized that it is God’s will for them to experience continual joy! Psalm 144:15 Happy and blessed are the people who are in such a case; yes, happy blessed, fortunate, prosperous, to be envied are the people whose God is the Lord!
Being Happy not only makes the journey of life endurable and enjoyable for you and those around you, it also helps keep you healthy Prov.17:22 A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing…….
The reason we can laugh and be happy and enjoy life in spite of our current situation or circumstances is because Jesus is our joy. (Col.3:4)
In our scripture verse above Ps. 34:8, is states in part, that being fortunate is part of knowing God. The word here fortunate means Privileged or Favored of God! You will really start to enjoy life when you finalize in your mind that the Favor of God rests on you!! That means that God wants to pour out all of His blessing on you.
Then if that is true why are we so depressed? Because! Just like anything else, enjoying life and being Happy is a decision. Just like putting mustard on a hot dog is a decision, so is deciding to be happy. Deciding to be happy is deciding to believe and act on God’s word. Being unhappy is deciding not to believe and act on God’s word.
Jesus gave us life so we can derive pleasure from being alive, not just so we go through the motions and try to survive until He comes back for us.
Preachers have made believing and acting on the Word of God hard!! You want to have life and enjoy it? Then just keep it simple! Life should be celebrated!! God is so simple, men have made finding Him difficult.
Some may say, “Oh brother Terry you’ve never been depressed, you don’t know what I go through,” No one should ever say, “You don’t know what I go through”. We don’t know where people have been and what has happened in their life. You would be surprised to know of the battles I have fought and won just to bring you this simple newsletter. If I can do it with the help of God and His Word, so can you!!!!!!!!
You have a blood-bought right to enjoy your life (1 Corinthians 6:20) Life should be celebrated!! Jesus said it like this, “…I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance to the full, till it overflows.” (John 10:10)
